How to make Chicha, a Venezuelan rice drink
Lightspeed Chicha Recipe
For when you're in a hurry! Makes 1 pitcher.
Ingredients
- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 3 cups water
- 1 container sweetened condensed milk
- 1 container milk (same size as condensed milk)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Additional milk as needed
Instructions
- Blend 1 cup of rice until almost flour consistency
- Boil 3 cups of water with the rice flour mixed in, stirring until it thickens
- Let the mixture cool for a bit
- Blend one container of sweetened condensed milk, a container full of milk, and one teaspoon of vanilla
- Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency
Traditional Chicha Recipe
Makes 1 gallon
Equipment
- Pot to cook rice
- Blender (the larger the better)
- Large bowl
Ingredients
- 2 cups jasmine rice
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- White sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- Less than 1 gallon of milk
Instructions
- Rinse rice, then boil 2 cups rice with 7 cups of water at low simmer
- Cook for approximately 30 minutes or until rice is close to disintegrating and water is mostly evaporated
- Blend in batches until you run out of cooked rice:
- Blend 1 cup of rice, 2 cups of milk, 1/8 cup of sugar, and some condensed milk
- Mix the result with a spoon between blending to ensure all rice is properly blended
- Once blended, taste and add to the large bowl
- Mix everything in the large bowl and add 1 tbsp vanilla
- Taste the chicha and add more sugar as desired
- Allow chicha to cool in refrigerator (cover with plastic wrap to maintain freshness)
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
